Janet Frye  1941-2016

 

Obituary from the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, January 1, 2017

 Janet "Jan" (Root) Frye, age 75, of Bloomington, passed away Dec. 29, 2016 at Regions Hospital, St. Paul.

She was born Nov. 26, 1941 in St. Paul, MN to Lawrence and Clara (Hegman) Root. Jan graduated from Johnson HS and Macalester College in St. Paul, MN with Library Science education at U of MN. She worked as a librarian at Dorsey law firm in Minneapolis, Catalog Card Corp. in Burnsville, National Information Systems in Edina, and as a reference librarian at Dakota County Library in W. St. Paul until she retired.

Jan met Kermit Frye while at Macalester, and they were married on August 31, 1963 at First Lutheran Church in St. Paul. They lived in Minneapolis and Bloomington prior to moving to Ilion, NY in 1971. They returned to Bloomington in 1976. Jan enjoyed genealogy and family history. She was active in Telelaget of America including time as its president. She also was active at the Swedish Genealogical Society of Minnesota writing a column for many years in its publication, Tidningen, about Swedish authors and books. She was involved in Bible study and helped publish Braille bibles at her church. She also did ceramics as a hobby and enjoyed playing bridge. She and her husband were active in square dancing for many years. They traveled through much of the US, Canada, Europe, and the Holy Land.

Jan was pleasant, loving, caring, and helpful to many. Jan is survived by her husband Kermit Frye of Bloomington, MN; son James (Susan) Frye and their children Megan, Alexander and Justin of Hudson, WI; and son Steven (Leah) Frye and their children Benjamin, Anastasia, Indigo, and Rowan (McGrath) of Bloomington, MN. Also survived by sister Judie (Donald) Strom of Cottage Grove, MN and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Sharon Frye. Visitation was held on Monday, January 2 at the funeral home with the funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Bloomington MN.  Burial was at Union Cemetery, Maplewood MN.
