Additional Information:

Ole and Astrid lost baby Aase after reaching America.  John was born in a railroad shanty near Galena, Illinois, and Østen was born in Minnesota Territory.  Her father John Gunleiksen Bøen accompanied them to America, as did her brother Gunleik Johnsen Bøen.  They were among the first settlers in Nicollet County, Minnesota.  Ole was born at farm Berge and Astrid at Våtveit  Ole’s parents were Østein Nielsen Tveito / Bakhus / Bøen and Aase Torsteinsdatter Vemork.  Astrid’s parents were John Gunleiksen Mæland / Bøen and Liv Gunulvsdatter Ingolvsland / /Bøen.  Ole was in the Scandinavian Guard of Nicollet County during the Indian War of 1862.  Østen Olsen Bøen, later Austin Estensen, was my g-grandfather.
