The Norseland Project

During the Sioux Uprising of 1862 in southern Minnesota, citizen soldiers formed up into regiments to protect their lives and property. Our Scandinavian ancestors, farmers by occupation, quickly became soldiers.

 

Many of these citizen soldiers came from the area called Norseland, near St. Peter, Minnesota. The regiments they formed are listed below. Send an email if you can help us identify the men of these regiments:
